And to make it up to you instead of just doing book favourites, this month I will do, make up, books and skincare! (I know it doesn't sound like a lot but trust me it is!) So grab yourself a snack, a cup of tea what ever takes your fancy, sit back put your feet up and enjoy!
(Just a quick note to say that if you click on the name of each product/ item I mentioned it will take you to a page where you can find out more about it or bUy the product, these are not affiliate links.)
Let's jump right in!
Make Up:
The first category is make up, and we shall start with lip products!
Going from left to right.
Revlon Lip Butter in Peach Parfait: I have never been someone who goes for bright in your face colours when it comes to lip products. One of the huge colours of the summer is coral, and peach parfait provides a very light sheer coral colour (colour is build-able) with an added silver shimmer. Like all Revlon lip butters this goes on smooth and helps moisturise the lips.
Maybelline Baby Lips in Pink Punch: This is pretty much the brightest I will go. (Except for night time when I will wear dark pinks or reds.) It is a very vibrant Barbie pink colour, that goes on sheer but can be built up to look more opaque.
Maybelline Baby Lips in Peach Kiss: This is pretty much being used as my everyday lip colour. This colour is not build-able. It smells amazing gives you a light wash of a neutral peach shade with some silver sparkle. These two (pink punch & peach kiss) where the first I tried of the Maybelline baby lips having heard great things about them and I can say having owned them now for a few weeks the definitely live up to the hype.
Next up Eye Products:
Soap and Glory Supercat Felt Tip Eye-liner: I have mentioned this before I think, it is my favourite liquid eye-liner, it is very black and doesn't dry up very fast you get at least 3-4 months out of it before it starts to dry up a little. The only issue I have with this is that it isn't waterproof which is a shame.
MUA Undressed palette: Billed as an Urban Decay Naked Palette dupe I snapped this up because it was a fraction of the price at just £4. I love this palette it has neutral colours for everyday wear but also darker colours for night time. The colours are well pigmented with minimal fallout, the only downside are the matte shades, they are not as well pigmented. (Please be aware that this is a very popular product and is hard to find in stock so if you see it buy it before it sells out. You can get them on-line on at Superdrug)
Max Factor Masterpiece Max Mascara: This is my all time favourite mascara, this is not the water proof formula. However I have never had an issue with flaking or smudging and it lasts all day. It holds a curl, makes my lashes look longer and more voluminous you couldn't ask for more. Just don't go swimming in it, it isn't waterproof it will run then!
Next up, Face Products:
Rimmel Stay Matte Powder: I have used this powder for years, it keeps my face from getting too shiny and adds a little extra coverage for the days when I don't wear foundation. It is my favourite powder.
N07 Beautifully Matte Foundation: When I do wear foundation in summer I tend to mix it with my primer for a lighter coverage. This is a medium to high coverage foundation, it covers well and holds up to its claim to keep your skin matte.
Benefit Hoola Bronzer: I use this mainly for contouring in summer because I already have a tan and don't need all over bronzing but I also use it in the winter to give my skin a healthy glow. It is one of my favourite bronzers.
Collection Ultimate Wear Concealer & Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Concealer: I love both of these and use them mainly when I am not wearing foundation, the Maybelline concealer brightens the eye area and covers dark circles whilst the Collection concealer covers blemishes and stays put all day.
Skincare!
Alpha H Liquid Gold: This is a chemical exfoliator. I use this every few days because it can be very harsh on the skin so I wouldn't recommend using it every day. However when I do use it I can see a notable difference in my skin it looks brighter and feels smoother.
Loreal Skin Perfection 3 in 1 Micellar Solution: My all time favourite Make up remover, it removes water proof make up with little difficulty and is widely regarded as a Bioderma dupe. I have never used Bioderma so I can't vouch for that however it does an amazing job removing my make up quickly.
Soap and Glory No Clogs Allowed Exfoliator: This is a self heating exfoliator and I tend use it when I am washing my hair so again similar to the Alpha H every few days. I have seen a notable difference in the appearance of my pores they do look less noticeable, and for me that's worth the slightly more expensive price tag.
Liz Earle Brightening Treatment Mask: This is just a sample size but I use it when ever my skin needs a bit of a lift because it's looking dull, and it really does brighten the skin.
and finally Books!
If I stay by Gayle Forman: This is my all time favourite book. It is about a girl who is in a car accident, her parents and little brother die. The story is told through flash backs of her life and through her having an out of body experience. She has to decide whether or not she has enough left to live for. It is a real tear jerker but honestly it is an amazing heart warming story of love, dreams and family.
Scarred by Julia Hoban: Along the same lines as if I stay, this tells the story of Willow who was driving her parents home when they crashed and her parents were killed. Now living with her older brother and his wife and child, she struggles to cope with the guilt of what she did. She feels her brother blames her for the accident and copes through self harm. Then she meets Guy I boy who may just be as complicated as she is. When he discovers her secret he pulls her out the solitary life she made for herself and helps her come to terms with everything that's happened, and to move forward, he teaches her to live again.
A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett: Another favourite, this however I didn't read until many years after I saw the first film. I was shocked by how different this book is. And can I just say that bit in the 1994 film when Sara's dad finally recognises her get's me every time, I never fail to cry. The ending of the book version is very different and though it is not as happy an ending as the film, I still think it is a happy ending. I would recommend this book for anyone it is a short read.
Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan: I only re read this because of the film coming out. Silly I know since the new film is not just this book but there you go. I still enjoyed this book despite it being about 3 years since I first read it, I wouldn't say it's in my top ten but it's still an enjoyable read. Lots of laughs, action and of course it has the Greek mythology that I love so much so it's a thumbs up from me!
A Game of Thrones by George R R Martin: I technically haven't finished this book yet, I still have about 100 pages to go, but I already love it, it's actioned packed, and though I found it hard to follow at first once I got into it I really started to enjoy it, I would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of the TV Show. I like to compare this to Lord of The Rings not in terms of the subject matter but more in terms of the scale of the story, and how different communities (if you can call them that) are at war for control, so perhaps if you enjoyed Lord of The Rings you'll like this too.
That's it for today everyone! Thank you for reading I hope you enjoyed it, I shall see you all on Monday.
