Books I Did Not Finish! - 15/07/2013

Hello everyone and welcome back to Books I did not finish! This is my 3rd post on this topic and today we are going to look at.

The Hollow
by
Jessica Verday

Tagline: A love like no other . . .

I'm a sucker for a good romance novel, at the time this book was released I was also a sucker for a good paranormal romance novel (curse you Twilight!) I have long since grown out of this stage and I don't think I've read a paranormal romance for over a year so with that in mind it has been a while since I last picked up this book.

Where do I begin? It's just before Christmas the year is 2009 and I'm browsing Amazon so my mum has idea's for Christmas presents when I come across The Hollow by Jessica Verday, the blurb, the cover, the tag line all of it pulls me in and I want to know more. I have to have this book, it is immediately added to list and it turns out was one of the 23 books (yes 23!) that I got for Christmas that year (did I mention I'm a book worm?).

Sadly this book did not live up to my expectations of what the premise had promised.

"When Abbey's best friend Kristen, vanishes at the bridge near Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, everyone in town assumes that she is dead. Everyone, that is, except for Abbey.

Struggling to come to terms with Kristen's disappearance and desperately seeking some answers, Abbey finds herself drawn more and more to the mysterious - and drop dead gorgeous - Caspian, who keeps reappearing in her life. But Caspian has secrets of his own, and when Abbey uncovers the frightening truth about him, she starts to question not only their emerging love but also her own sanity . . ."

Okay, it's now four years later and now that I read that blurb again, I have to wonder what on Earth I was thinking when I thought this book sounded awesome. It actually sounds pretty damn boring which it very much is.

Now then what is this book like?
Well, my fellow girls (and some guys who knows let's not discriminate here) you remember that one week in your childhood when you decided and attempted to keep a diary. Which you ultimately gave up on? Yep that one where you wrote nothing of interest because you were young and didn't really do much? Well that's how this book, reads. A boring, monotonous, play by play of a teen girls life. I know if someone was to go back and read my old diary they would fall asleep and that's what I nearly did when I read this book.

I already said I loved a good paranormal romance, but I also like it to have a story other than just boy and girl fall in love the first time they see each other, but wait. . . . one of them isn't human dun dun dun! this is the story of how they fall in love, but soon realise it isn't safe for the human and leaves but they get back together in the end because they just can't live..... (yeah okay you get the picture).

I thought this book was the opposite of the above, I mean the girls best friend is missing and she's the only one who thinks she isn't dead. There's just one problem. She's sees Caspian and BAM! this is no longer a story about a girl trying to find out what happened to her best friend (since that plot line is completely forgotten for the majority of the book) and is instead full of dear sweet quirky Abbey instantly falling head over heels for the allusive mysterious Caspian. Yawn!

Again the same with Beautiful Creatures, it is needless to say I also didn't finish the series, I don't even own them so I have no idea how this series or this book for that matter finished, because I just gave up out of sheer boredom.

This book is long my copy totals 513 pages and I'm pretty damn sure it's printed in size sixteen font! It did not need to be this long, I'm pretty positive it could have been 200 pages shorter! I don't need to know how many times this girl bakes cookies, I get it she likes cookies, I like them too, but please stop mentioning it. (For reference it is mentioned A LOT)

Abbey is gullible and from what I did read I imagine her to be slightly desperate. Who automatically follows the creepy guy who randomly appeared in your 'dead' best friends basement even though he didn't know her and then also appeared at the same friends funeral. Erm Abbey can I have a word? Listen hunny any normal person would run like hell in the opposite direction not unquestionably hurry after him, no matter how damn cute he is!

This is quiet possibly one of the worst and stupidest displays of YA insta-love I have ever seen. It is just completely unbelievable, if the story/ relationship was good I could have looked past that but no it was creepy and weird and honestly I wanted to drag Abbey straight off the pages just to get her away from Caspian!

I'm sorry Ms Verday, I loved the premise of your book but not the actual article. It's a thumbs down from me!

That's all for today I hope you enjoyed this post and I shall see you all on Wednesday!
