Preparing for Allegiant by Veronica Roth!

Hello everybody!

Do you know what today is? (Yes I know it's Friday but that isn't the answer I am looking for!) Today marks just 3 days until the much anticipated release of Allegiant! The final book in the Divergent series by Veronica Roth!

I think it is safe to say that I have never been this excited for a conclusion  to a series, however maybe that's a bad thing because my expectations are set really high. I will be devastated if Allegiant isn't amazing given how awesome both Divergent and Insurgent are.

So today in celebration of the impending release date I thought I would do a quick overview post on things to know about the series that may be important to remember before we read the last book, if Insurgent is anything to go by Veronica Roth isn't a fan of looking back at events from the previous book like some authors, she seems to prefer to drive straight in to the story. (So bare in mind it may be worth re-reading Insurgent too!)

Shall we go for blurb's first?

Divergent:
"Sixteen year-old Beatrice Prior lives in dystopian Chicago, where people are separated into the five factions, Abnegation (the selfless), Amity (the peaceful), Candor (the honest), Dauntless (the brave), and Erudite (the intelligent). Every year the sixteen year-old's of the community must decide whether they want to remain in the faction they were born or whether to switch factions and leave their entire family behind. Whatever they choose they will have to denounce the views of the other factions and devote themselves to their chosen faction for the rest of their lives. For Beatrice she must decide between her family and the person she really is, she can't pick both.  So she makes a choice that shocks everyone, including herself.

What follows is the highly competitive initiation processes were Beatrice has the opportunity to create a new name for herself, she chooses Tris. Alongside her fellow initiates she at first struggles to cope with her choice. As a group they must take part in extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations which for some will have devastating consequences. The initiation will change every single one of them and Tris must determine who her friends really are and if a romance between her and her 18 year old instructor a sometimes fascinating, sometimes exasperating boy would now fit in to the life that she had chosen.
But Tris has a deep and dangerous secret, one she was warned could mean her death so she hid it from everyone. As her initiation continues she discovers unrest and growing conflict that will threaten to unravel the seemingly perfect society she inhabits, she also learns that the secret she's fought so desperately to keep hidden  might help her to save those that she loves . . . or it might just destroy her first."

Insurgent:
"One choice can transform you, or destroy you.

Every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves, and herself, while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love."

The major question that I and I suspect thousand of other rabid fans have is, will we finally find out what lies on the other-side of the gate that the Dauntless protected.

Let's rewind.

At the end of Insurgent, Tris worked with Tobias' father to help uncover a secret that would bring Jeanine (The Leader of Erudite and the mastermind behind the Erudite and Dauntless alliance against abnegation, responsible for the deaths of hundreds including many Divergent. Killed by Tori in revenge for her brothers murder)and the faction system tumbling down. In order to do this (I'm putting this in for the Tris and Tobias fans it's not exactly necessary but hey she had to go behind Tobias' back but it's all okay because in this instant she was right to trust Marcus and once he's calmed down Tobias sees this, and forces his mother the leader of the faction-less to play the disc that they found in the Erudite compound.

On the disc is a message, it shows images of the world, a world which could only be described as a dying warring world. A woman named Amanda Ritter, says that she is part f a group fighting for peace and justice, she says the fight is against human nature itself.

It reveals that the people in the faction system were cut off from the rest of the world, isolated. Their society set up differently to those on the outside, and that when there are those among them whose minds appear more flexible than the rest, who can change in a way that the people outside the gate no longer can, when those people are in abundance, Amity should unlock the gate forever for them to rejoin the rest of the world, those people are called Divergent.

Her last words are, "My name will be Edith Prior, and there is much I am happy to forget"

It was one of those groaning kind of moments, even though the twist was so good you just new that it would have something to do with Tris' family she is after the all the main protagonist. Remember that her brother Caleb betrayed her and their family so I wonder if Caleb will become an enemy in this book assuming he still agrees with Jeanine's politics and way of life, it was after all Jeanine who said that Divergent people were dangerous, that they couldn't be trusted, her aim was to make sure that the gate was never opened, but now Jeanine is dead, the system is pretty much over.

So will those who are left unlock the gate and rejoin the rest of the world? I think they will why else would Veronica Roth end the book this way if they weren't going to leave however, I don't believe everyone will go, I believe there will be a situation were some people will chose to stay in their isolation and will lock the gate once the others left.

What I and many others want to know, is what is waiting for them on the other side of that gate, what has happened to the world since that recording was made, has got worse, better, or is everyone else already dead?

I heard a horrible rumour that Tris ends up dying, I hope this isn't true, I'll be heartbroken however I'll be more heartbroken if four dies, if one dies can they both die please! They have to be together!

Just highlight the black outed text if you want to read any of the spoilery stuff, obviously there is no guarantee this is true it is just a rumour!

  1. As I've been busy reading other books and never got around to rereading Insurgent (I feel kind of bad saying that), I came across this after googling for a little "refresher" of Insurgent. This is exactly what I needed before I start Allegiant! Thank you for putting this together!
