Wreck-It Ralph : A Review!

I promise this will be the last Disney related post. (For like a week, maybe. We'll see, don't quote me on this).
Okay so on Sunday night I decided to watch Wreck-It Ralph for the first time, again I'm not the best Disney addict in the world am I! Since in a similar way to Monsters University this film has been out for quite some time now.

So as you will have guessed/ deciphered from the title today's post is a review of Wreck-It Ralph. A very late one but a review all the same!

I guess a good place to start with this would be why it took me so long to watch this film. Well honestly, the whole idea behind it didn't really appeal to me. My interest in arcade games pretty much began and ended with Pac-Man and Galaga. So you can understand a film about different arcade games just sort of washed over my head, it's not that I didn't want to see it, I just wasn't that interested in seeing it.

I will hold my hands up right now.

I was wrong.

This is a very good film! I need to start learning my lesson that you shouldn't judge a book (or film) by it's cover shouldn't I. I think what makes this film so good, is like a lot of reviewers before me have said, it has the heart of a Pixar film, there is one part that has my almost on the verge of tears like Up and Toy Story did.

It's funny, nostalgic, heart breaking yet also heart warming. And I honestly didn't expect that twist with Turbo, am I the only one who didn't see that coming because honestly when I saw it I felt a little silly that I didn't even think that that might be an outcome of this film! So I can't decide whether it's a testament to the film-makers that they kept me guessing or whether I wasn't paying close enough attention!

It's a bright colourful film, that will appeal to children but I would say also has enough laughs and nostalgia for the adults to enjoy as well. And if you don't feel sorry for Vanellope that you don't have a heart, the girl is so cute, I felt so sorry for her when Ralph was tricked into sabotaging her by King Candy. I just wanted to give her a hug especially after she had made Ralph that medal that he was her hero on it because he was helping her when no one else would.

Vanellope and Ralph are in the same boat, both aren't liked in their respective games, Ralph is the bad guy who destroys everything and Vanellope is a glitch a mistake that doesn't belong. Obviously this film comes with a message, be true to who you are. Like in Ralph's case just because he's a bad guy in the game doesn't mean he's actually a bad guy, and Vanellope isn't a glitch, it's her special power (as she calls it at the end) which you have to admit is a great message to be in a children's film, be true to yourself.

I have to admit I'm not a gamer so I probably missed a lot of in-jokes and references but that's okay because it didn't detract from my enjoyment of the film.
With this film Disney have put themselves on par with Pixar with a story full of heart, emotion and energy, it's a winner for all the family, there's something for everyone to enjoy and take away from this film.

That's all for today I hope you enjoyed this post and I shall see you all on Friday!
